World football governing body FIFA have issued a life-time ban from all football-related activity to former Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kwesi Nyantakyi.
A FIFA statement said Nyantakyi, who was also the vice-president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has violated its rules on conflict of interest and bribery and corruption.
“As a consequence, Mr. Nyantakyi is banned for life from all football related activities (administrative, sports or any other) at both national and international level,” the FIFA statement said.
FIFA has also imposed a fine of 500,000 Swiss Francs on Nyantakyi.
The life ban and fine stems from an investigative piece by the undercover journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, who filmed Nyantakyi in a sting operation discussing how to divert part of sponsorship money meant for the GFA.
He was also filmed accepting a cash gift from the undercover journalist in the documentary “Number 12, When Greed and Corruption Become The Norm.”
Nyantakyi became GFA president in 2005 until his fall in June this year.
Apart from his rise to the vice-presidency of CAF, he was also the president of the West Africa Football Union. (ESPN)
