Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has admitted he had multiple offers to leave the club over the summer, but insists he remains happy to be with the Bundesliga champions.
Lewandowski made no secret of his desire to leave the Allianz Arena during the off-season, with reports suggesting the Poland international was keen to join Real Madrid.
Though it seems the Blancos were less keen to reciprocate in terms of an offer despite the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lewandowski has insisted there were clubs interested in his services, though he knew Bayern were unlikely to allow him to leave.
“There were some things at Bayern which I did not like and I wanted to talk about that,” he told Sportowe Fakty after he slammed the club for not allowing him to leave.
“I had several offers from different clubs.
“When I realised, there was a strange atmosphere in the media and between the clubs, I decided to talk about it.
“I wanted to make a statement by saying: ‘If there are so many people who are not satisfied with me, I might as well leave’.
“Still I knew that Bayern's answer would be: No, no and no. No matter what kind of offer was made.”
Despite the Bavarians' insistence that he would not be allowed to leave, Lewandowski holds no hard feelings towards a club for whom he has scored 159 goals in 205 appearances since joining from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2014.
He did, though, suggest that he would potentially still be looking to play for a team with more profile despite having turned 30 in August.
“I can’t say I am disappointed. I am still at one of the best clubs in the world. Maybe Bayern’s popularity worldwide is a little lower than with other top clubs, but if I was not happy here I’d have a problem.
“I will still fight for the biggest goals. The season is long and we can play at the highest level. Even though there are currently many things which we need to improve.” (Goal.com)
