South Sudan Coach Abdelmalik resigns after poor start

The South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) has confirmed that head coach Ahcene Ait Abdelmalek has resigned, just six months after signing a two-year contract.

Abdelmalek tendered in his resignation on Tuesday (25 September 2018). His resignation came after the recent 3-0 home defeat by Mali in the Total Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon 2019 qualifiers at Juba Stadium on 9 September 2018.

According to the SSFA, assistant coach Ramsey Sabit Lumori, who doubles as the U-20 team will guide the Bright Stars for the AFCON double-header against Gabon next week.

Ramsey, whose first duty for the U-20 team ended in a disappointing 8-1 aggregate loss to Uganda in the qualifiers for the Total U-20 Africa Cup of Nations Niger 2019 will be hoping for a positive outing in the two matches against Gabon. The Bright Stars travel to Libreville to face ‘Les Pantheres’ of Gabon on Friday, 12 October 2018 before hosting the reverse in Juba four days later.

South Sudan sits at the bottom of Group C pointless after losses to Burundi and Mali. Mali leads the pack with six points with Burundi and Gabon in that order with four and one point respectively.
