Nigeria international Brian Idowu seals move to Lokomotiv Moscow

By Daily Sports on July 11, 2018

Nigeria international Brian Idowu has joined Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow after being released by Amkar Perm following their bankruptcy.

The 26-year-old full-back was born in St. Petersburg to Nigerian parents and has represented the Super Eagles in the 2018 World Cup, featuring in their group games.

His impressive performances caught the eyes of a number of Russian sides. Dynamo Moscow, CSKA Moscow, Spartak Moscow, and Lokomotiv Moscow were all interested in signing him, but he opted to join Lokomotiv.

Idowu has penned a three-year contract which will see stay at the club until the end of the 2020-2021 season.

“I am very glad to switch to Lokomotiv. I’m really looking forward to joining the team at the training camp,” Idowu told the club’s official website.

“In childhood, I watched the matches of Loco in the Champions League – against Real and Inter. The whole country was proud of the team!

“I am well acquainted with Aleksandr Kolomeytsev, we played together in Perm, I know the rest of the guys from the matches between Amkar Perm and Lokomotiv Moscow,” he added.

Brian Idowu will end his eight-year association with Amkar Perm, having moved to them in 2010 from Zenit St. Petersburg.

During his time at Amkar Perm, Idowu made 99 appearances for and scored three goals, but has failed to win any silverware with them. (www.kingfut.com)
