As the Nigeria under 21 team takes shape with an impressive dispatching of Guinea Bissau in the first round of qualifiers for the junior African Nations Cup, one name the Paul Aigbogun led technical bench might have to look at to make the Flying Eagles more competitive is that of a young Nigerian striker currently having a super campaign in the Swedish League. He is Pascal Onyekachi Durugbor.
Daily Sports has been following the progress of the 19-year-old right from his days as a young prodigy in Benin City based grassroots outfit Rock Stars Academy from where he recently left to join Vaxjo in the third tier of the Swedish League.
Durugbor is a street-wise attacker who impressed Benin fans with a knack of scoring goals with seeming ease, and he’s exported this quality to Sweden.
At present, Durugbor has netted 6 goals in 6 matches for Vaxjo and this has helped to fire the team to the top of the league with14 points from six matches.
The tall striker has also banged in 4 goals in Cup games for Vaxjo this season.
A great attribute of the striker is that he can shoot and score with both legs, while his game reading, balance and movement are other qualities that have ensured that his profile in Europe is fast on the rise.
A solid brain behind the fast rise of Durugbor is Ferdinand Oji, president of Rock Stars Academy in Benin City and CEO of Chines Sports Investment Limited, a sports management company.
Mr Oji is a very keen football investor in Benin City who is fast becoming popular in the Nigerian Football space for being the sole financier of fast rising Rock Stars Academy, who are currently in very impressive form as they have reached the semi-final of the Edo state FA Cup competition in their first year of participation.
The academy has a slew of other young and highly talented players who are announcing themselves with their brave and quality performances in the FA Cup.
Rock Stars take on national division one side Dynamite Force on Thursday in one of the Edo FA Cup semi-final games lined up for that day.
Mr Oji is also widely admired for the solid welfare package he puts in place for players at his academy, ensuring that they stay focused in the game and get the right physical, mental and financial platform to perform well in football.
It is this fantastic care and management that Durugbor has enjoyed and today he’s justifying the investment made on him by Rock Star with his solid performance in Sweden.
