Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson undergoes emergency brain surgery

Manchester United have affirmed Sir Alex Ferguson has experienced emergency brain surgery.

“Sir Alex Ferguson has undergone emergency surgery today for a brain hemorrhage,” read a statement from Manchester United. ‘The procedure has gone very well but he needs a period of intensive care to optimise his recovery. “His family request privacy in this matter.”

Ferguson’s son Darren, manager of Doncaster, was absent from his side’s final game of the season against Wigan, due to “a severe family issue”. A statement on the League One club’s official website read: “Darren asks for privacy, and will provide an update through the club during the week.” An ambulance was called to the 76-year-old’s home in Cheshire at about 9 am yesterday morning and took him to Macclesfield district hospital. He was subsequently transferred to and treated at the Salford Royal.

Manchester United players were made mindful of Ferguson’s condition before the data was put forth open and the expression issued by the club.
