Bayern Munich crowned Bundesliga champions

Bayern Munich secured a sixth straight Bundesliga title after coming from behind to win 4-1 at Bavarian neighbours Augsburg on Saturday.

After thrashing Borussia Dortmund 6-0 last weekend, the champagne was on ice -- and Bayern recovered from conceding an early bizarre own goal to wrap up the championship in style at the WWK Arena.

Augsburg had taken a shock lead on 18 minutes when Sergio Cordova’s shot was saved by Sven Ulreich but bounced up into the face of Niklas Sule and rolled into the empty net.

Bayern were soon level through Corentin Tolisso’s header on 32 minutes, and James Rodriguez fired them in front before the break.

Arjen Robben lashed in a third just after the hour with Sandro Wagner nodding in a late fourth as Jupp Heynckes’ men delivered a 28th German league title for Bayern.

With next week’s second leg of their Champions League quarterfinal against Sevilla in mind, Bayern boss Heynckes made several changes.

Robert Lewandowski, who had plundered a hat trick in Der Klassiker, had to make do with a place on the bench as Wagner led the attack while David Alaba and Arturo Vidal both were rested.

The home side made a positive start as Brazilian midfielder Caiuby's angled drive was just wide after being played in on the left.

On 16 minutes, Philipp Max saw his shot strike the outside of the post, but the offside flag was up.

Augsburg, though, were soon in front.

Defender Jerome Boateng was caught in possession by Cordova, who darted into the Bayern penalty area and forced Ulreich into a smart save with his feet.

The ball, though, ricocheted back up into the face of defender Sule before bouncing on into the net.

Bayern, though, were back on level terms after 32 minutes when midfielder Tolisso nodded in after a deep cross in from the right by Joshua Kimmich.

The defender then almost scored himself with a close-range header, but this time Augsburg keeper Marwin Hitz was equal to it.

Bayern took the lead seven minutes before half-time. Again Kimmich was involved, taking a pass from Robben before whipping the ball into the penalty area, where Juan Bernat played a clever back-heel out to Rodriguez, who lashed the ball inside the far post.

Kimmich was denied by another good stop from Hitz as Bayern finished the half on top.

The title was secure on 62 minutes when Robben crashed in a third as Rodriguez hooked the ball back out to the edge of the penalty area after a free-kick had not been cleared.

With three minutes left, Wagner put the icing on the cake when he headed in from a corner. (ESPN)
