Enyimba of Aba, Nigeria, put up a spirited display in South Africa in their CAF Confederations Cup play off first leg match against Bidvest to draw 1-1.
Bidvest had taken the lead in the 3rd minute through Daine Klate but Enyimba fought back instantly by drawing level in the 5th minute with a Mustapha Ibrahim goal.
Before the match the goalscorer Ibrahim had expressed confidence that his team will get a good result in the CAF Confederation play-off first leg match.
The Nigerian representatives hit South Africa on Wednesday in high spirits following recent impressive results in the domestic league.
In a chat before the team’s departure for South Africa, the former El-Kanemi Warriors striker said the match will be a difficult one but Enyimba are experienced enough to come out unscathed.
He said the ‘peoples elephants’ have resolved to get the result that will make them play without pressure in the return leg.
He also said Enyimba FC are facing their opponents with some of the best legs in the domestic league.
“It will be an uphill task against Bidvest Wits but we are determined to get a good result against them.
“We have the second leg coming up so we need to win or at least get a draw so that we don’t put ourselves under too much pressure.
“I am confident because we have the players who can do the job. Most of the players in Enyimba are not new to continental football,” he said.
Ibrahim had also said he will give his all to help his club pick a decent result in the Confederation Cup tie.
“I hope to be given a chance to play a role in the match. I have fully recovered and I am ready to put in my best for the team to win or get at least a draw,” he assured.
