Onuachu breaks 14-year Trabzonspor goal record

Paul Onuachu continued his prolific scoring run for Trabzonspor on Monday, netting a brace in their 3–1 victory over Kayserispor to break a 14-year club scoring record in the Turkish Süper Lig, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Nigerian striker opened the scoring shortly before the break, powering in a close-range header in the second minute of added time to give the visitors the lead.
Five minutes later, he doubled the advantage from the penalty spot after László Bénes handled the ball inside the area. Onuachu calmly converted with a right-footed strike to seal the win for Trabzonspor.
The brace ensured the Black Sea side maintained pressure on league leaders Fenerbahçe S.K. and Galatasaray S.K. in the title race.
More significantly, the goals saw Onuachu become the first Trabzonspor player in 14 years to score in seven consecutive league matches, equalling the record set by Burak Yılmaz during the 2011/12 season.
The 31-year-old forward has now scored 22 goals and provided two assists across all competitions this season, which underlines his importance to coach Fatih Tekke’s side.
In the league alone, Onuachu has been involved in nearly 40 per cent of Trabzonspor’s 51 goals, a contribution that has kept the club firmly in contention for a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
His latest performance continues a remarkable run of form that has seen him score in nine successive appearances across the league and domestic cup competitions.
Onuachu has achieved the 20+ goal milestone in a single season five times in his career, having previously accomplished this feat with KRC Genk and FC Midtjylland.
His scoring streak includes goals against Fatih Karagümrük, Kasimpasa, Antalyaspor, Fethiyespor, Fenerbahce, Gaziantep, Karagumruk, and Basaksehir, as well as a brace against Samsunspor since returning from AFCON in late January.
Trabzonspor had also dominated the reverse fixture against Kayserispor earlier in the season, winning 4–0 with Onuachu contributing both a goal and an assist.
The striker’s sustained scoring form has made him one of the most decisive forwards in European football this season and a central figure in Trabzonspor’s push for domestic success.
