Kano Pillars captain Ahmed Musa has dedicated his match-winning performance in the Kano derby to the club’s supporters after scoring the decisive goal in their 1-0 victory over Barau FC in the Nigeria Premier Football League, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The former Super Eagles captain struck in the second half to secure all three points for Pillars in the week 29 clash at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano on Sunday, a result that also eased the club’s relegation concerns.
Speaking after the match, Musa said the most important outcome of the derby was the victory and praised the fans for their unwavering support.
“What I can say is that the most important thing is the three points,” Musa said.
“Being named man of the match today means a lot to me. I gave my best because yesterday I could not sleep. I kept thinking about the game because it was a very tough match for all of us. But at the end of the day, we got the three points and that is the most important thing.”
The Pillars captain said he wanted to dedicate the goal to the club’s supporters who filled the stadium to back the team in the derby.
“I want to dedicate this goal to all the fans of Kano Pillars because today we really appreciated the support they came to show us,” he said.
“There is nothing we can truly give them that equals what they give to us, but Inshallah we will continue to do our best. Today’s game was a very important one and Alhamdulillah we got the result.”
Musa also stressed that the team would remain focused as the league season approaches its final stretch.
“We will keep going until the end of the league to see what we can achieve,” he said. “We have another tough game next week, so we will prepare well and see what we can get from that match.”
The victory moved Kano Pillars to 15th place on the league table with 35 points, while Barau FC remain 12th with 37 points.
