With the uncertainty surrounding the future of Nigeria international, Victor Osimhen, at Napoli, the Serie A champions have started shopping for a possible replacement for the striker, The PUNCH reports.
While refusing to give out details on his next move, Osimhen in his latest interview with CBS Sports said he had already made a decision about his future.
“The rumour is going around about me linked with the Premier League,” Osimhen told CBS Sports.
When you’re one of the hottest strikers on the globe, you expect this type of thing, and of course, the Premier League is one of the biggest and best leagues in the whole world.
I’m with Napoli, I signed a new contract. I’m enjoying my time there. I think I’ve already made up my mind, I already know what I want to do in my career.
Since I’ve started, I’ve been the one making my own decisions and everything is working out well for me. I already know the next step I want to take, so for now I just want to finish the season strong.
I will then go relax somewhere with my daughter, think about my life and then finally come out with a decision that I’ve already made.”
The Nigerian striker has been one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe following his impressive performance for Napoli last season, guiding them to their first Serie A title in 33 years. The striker also finished the season as the league’s top scorer with 26 goals.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Chelsea are among the most interested clubs in the Super Eagles striker and the Blues are ready to pay his €130m clause at the end of the season.
More sources in Italy claim that Osimhen has decided to leave the Partenopei at the end of the current campaign, prompting the club to draw up a five-man striker shortlist to replace the Nigerian star.
Among the strikers listed are the striker’s compatriot, Victor Boniface, who has been in excellent form for Bayer Leverkusen in Germany.
TMW adds that the defending Serie A champions also have Jonathan David (Lille), Joshua Zirkzee (Bologna), Santiago Gimenez (Feyenoord) and Benjamin Sesko (RB Leipzig) aside Boniface among the players listed to replace the Nigerian forward.
