Ruthless Monchegladbach spank Bayern Munich

By Daily Sports on October 7, 2018

Alassane Plea and the returning Lars Stindl scored as Borussia Mönchengladbach inflicted a second defeat of the season on defending champions Bayern Munich , putting in a clinical display to emerge 3-0 victors at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern came into this meeting without a win in their three previous games in all competitions and their visitors duly sought to take advantage of any wavering confidence in the home team.

Aggressive and quick in the tackle, Gladbach went ahead early on when Plea curled in a beautiful goal from the edge of penalty area, and they doubled their lead moments later when Stindl – making his first appearance of the season following injury – drilled in from 10 yards to punish the hosts for an uncharacteristic loose pass coming out of defence.

The second period brought the expected onslaught towards the Gladbach goal, with the guests forced to sit deep in a bid to weather the storm.

Bayern did find the net midway through the half, but Robert Lewandowski’s effort was correctly ruled out for offside. The Foals still posed a threat on the counter, though, with Plea at the heart of most of their forward forays, and he set up Florian Neuhaus for their best opportunity to seal the points, but the young midfielder fired wide with only Neuer to beat.

Niko Kovac’s men attacked until the very end but it was Gladbach who scored again when substitute Patrick Herrmann lashed in late on to seal a famous win for the visitors, leaving Bayern four points behind leaders Borussia Dortmund.
