Ghana beat Zimbabwe 1-0 in a CAF second round 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying match at the National Sports Stadium in Harare on Tuesday. Victory moved the Black Stars top of Group G on nine points, two ahead of South Africa who host Ethiopia at FNB Stadium in Soweto this evening. The result also ended Zimbabwe’s hopes of reaching Qatar 2022. The Warriors are rooted to the bottom of the group standings having accumulated just a single point after four matches. The decisive goal in Harare came just after the half-hour mark. Black Stars captain and Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey boasts a good goal-scoring record at international level, and proved why with a powerful free-kick, which whistled over the head of Talbert Shumba before crashing into the roof of the net. Victory secured a qualifying double over Zimbabwe for Ghana following a 3-1 win over the same opponents at the Cape Coast Stadium on Saturday. Ghana will face Ethiopia on matchday five before a potentially group deciding match against South Africa on home soil next month. (African Football) •PHOTO: Ghana players
