The Minister of Youth and Sports Development Mr. Sunday Dare, will lead officials of the Ministry to the launching of the Adoption Campaign of the Ministry come Monday, December 16, 2019, the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos. The Work Experience Programme (WEP), another initiative of the Ministry which was launched in Abuja on the Africa Youth day, will also be introduced to critical stakeholders.
A statement announcing the forthcoming Lagos launch said: “The Ministry over the last few months has studied the global investment practices in Youth and Sports Development and noted a positive correlation between growth in GDP and strategic investment in Youth and Sports Development and in line with this, it has become imperative to bring in the private sector companies to share ideas for mutually beneficial collaborations.
“The event will provide a platform for conversations with the Honourable Minister and senior management staff of the Ministry as well as an opportunity to listen and key into the Ministry’s new initiatives being rolled out and give feedback on areas where private organisations would be interested in leveraging.
“The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is expected to grace the occasion. Other notable dignitaries expected at the event are ex internationals Daniel Amokachi, Kanu Nwankwo, Austin Okocha, amongst others.
“Nigerian athletes Ese Brume, Amusan Tobi, Blessing Okagbare, Divine Oduduru, Raymond Okevwo, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, Emmanuel Bamidele, amongst others, who will be representing Nigeria at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, will be also in attendance.”
The Adoption Campaign is an initiative to raise direct funds for each athlete for training, support for trials, coaching, medicals and others.
