A delegation of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has paid a condolence visit to the family of late former Minister of Information and pioneer Chairman, National Sports Commission, Chief Alex Akinyele.

Speaking in Ondo, the country home of the public relations guru, the President of the Association, Mr Honour Sirawoo, described the death of Akinyele as a great loss to Nigeria.

Sirawoo, who was represented by the Vice-President, South-West, Mr Seun Ajayi Obe, expressed the condolences of the association on behalf of all the members in the country.

Obe said: “Our leader, Mr Honour Sirawoo, would have been here to personally pay his condolences on behalf of SWAN but for another official engagement in the North-Eastern part of the country.

“Chief Akinyele was full of life and dexterity as information Minister and National Sports Commission boss. He related with sports writers professionally and thus made the job easy for us.

“We would have loved to continue to tap from his wealth of knowledge and experience but for this eventuality.”

The SWAN President prayed God to repose the soul of the deceased.

Responding, a son of the deceased, Kayode Akinyele, thanked SWAN for associating with his dad even in death.

Others in the entourage were Akintunde Akinsemola immediate past chairman of SWAN in Ondo State and Olubunmi Afuye, Ondo chapter Executive Committee member of the Association.
