Nigeria’s number one citizen had a feel of the FIFA World Cup trophy during its visit to Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory
President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday received the FIFA World Cup trophy.
Having visited 30 countries since it began its globetrotting journey in January, the iconic trophy landed in Abuja and it was presented to the country’s head by Christian Karembeu.
The FIFA delegation was led by Peter Njonjo, president Coca-Cola West Africa as president Buhari was joined at the event on Wednesday by members of the Federal Executive council.
“I am proud to note that Nigeria is the first African country to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup,” said president Buhari.
“The federal government will ensure that necessary support is given to facilitate preparations for successful participation of the Super-Eagles at the World Cup in Russia.”
The world famous solid-gold trophy that will be presented to the winning country of the 2018 FIFA World Cup will be up for public viewing at the Old Parade Ground, Garki on Thursday morning.
Over the next few months, the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola will visit no less than 30 cities across 19 countries before settling back in Russia for the tournament.
