Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has described his side’s 1-0 Premier League win against champions Chelsea on Sunday at the Etihad as very important to their quest of winning the league title this season.
After a spirited first half performance, Chelsea were eventually breached thanks to Bernardo Silva who finished off David Silva’s squared pass to earn the three points for City.
The win took City’s points to 78, with an 18 points difference from second-placed Liverpool, while Chelsea are in the fifth position, and have 53 points, eight points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
“It was so important, a win on Sunday is another step closer,” Guardiola said in his post-match interview. “We need four victories to be champions, it is in our hands and if our behaviour is like today we will be champions.
“Against a strong team like Chelsea, who are still the champions, and beat them in the way we did, that is why it is so good.”
