Danny Garcia retaliates Brandon Rios defeat

By Daily Sports on February 19, 2018

Danny ‘Swift’ Garcia (34-1, 20 KOs) bounced back nicely from his previous defeat last year to destroy former lightweight belt holder Brandon ‘Bam Bam’ Rios (34-4-1, 25 KOs) by a vicious 1-punch knockout in the 9th round on Saturday night in a World Boxing Council welterweight title eliminator at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Rios got back to his feet after the knockdown, but he was too hurt for the referee Kenny Bayless to allow the fight to be continued. The badly hurt Rios had to be helped back to his corner by Robert Garcia.

Garcia landed 188 of 614 shots for a connect percentage of 31 percent. Those weren’t great numbers, but it reflects that many of the punches Garcia threw were with him being on the move. Garcia was rarely standing in place for any length of time against Rios, even though he could have easily stood and slugged it out without getting hurt. Rios was too slow and weak to do any damage to Garcia.

It’s been 7 years since Rios moved up in weight from the lightweight division, and he never carried his power up with him.
