Caf Champions: MFM hold AS Real Bamako

By Daily Sports on February 12, 2018

MFM announced their debut in the 2018 Caf Champions league campaign with a draw against hosts AS Real Bamako on Sunday. The match ended 1-1.

The Olukoya Boys stunned the 2016 Malian Première Division runners-up in the 15th minute through Nojeem Akinyemi.

Akinyemi beat goalkeeper Adama Bamba after receiving a pass from Stanley Okorom to ensure a grave silence in the stadium. But two minutes later, the hosts got the equaliser.

The visitors showed great resolve over the remainder of the first half and entered the break level at Stade Modibo Keita.

Yet MFM tightened up in the second period and AS Real Bamako, six-time winner of the Malian Première Division failed to find a winner.

The visitors stepped on the gas thereafter as Chijioke Akuneto tried a long-range shot, but saw his effort miss the target.

Fidelis Ilechukwu’s men welcome the Malians to Lagos in a fortnight and the winner on aggregate will face the winner between AS Otôho and MC Alger in the First Round in March.
