France forward Antoine Griezmann was named Euro 2016's Player of the Tournament by UEFA's technical observers on Monday.

Griezmann, 25, finished the tournament as top scorer with six goals but could not help the host nation to victory in Sunday's final, which they lost 1-0 to Portugal at the Stade de France.

The Atletico Madrid player started all but one France's seven matches in the tournament, and his Golden Boot-winning haul of strikes included braces against Republic of Ireland and Germany in the knockout phase.

UEFA chief technical officer Ioan Lupescu, who led the panel of technical observers, told the tournament's official website: "Antoine Griezmann was a threat in every game he played. He works hard for his team and possesses technique, vision and quality finishing.

"The technical observers were in unanimous agreement that he was the tournament's outstanding player."

Griezmann was also named in UEFA's Team of the Tournament alongside France teammate Dimitri Payet, while winners Portugal had four representatives in the XI.

UEFA team of the tournament: Rui Patricio (POR); Joshua Kimmich (GER), Jerome Boateng (GER), Pepe (POR), Raphael Guerreiro (POR); Toni Kroos (GER), Joe Allen (WAL), Aaron Ramsey (WAL); Antoine Griezmann (FRA), Dimitri Payet (FRA); Cristiano Ronaldo (POR)
