Confirmed: Arsenal sign Aubameyang, Batshuayi joins Dortund

Arsenal have officially completed the signing of Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for a club record fee.

The Bundesliga club broke the news on Wednesday morning, several hours after it had been confirmed that the forward was at Arsenal undergoing a medical ahead of the €63.75m move.

The move had been held up for several days while the two clubs haggled over a fee. Initially, Dortmund had been looking for €70m for their star forward while Arsenal’s first bid was in the region of €50m. However, they ultimately agreed on a compromise that suited all parties and Aubameyang becomes the latest member of Arsene Wenger’s squad.

Dortmund had also been holding the deal up while they looked for a replacement – a search that also came to a close on deadline day when they agreed a loan deal with Chelsea for Belgian international Michy Batshuayi.

The final part of this merry-go-round, namely the £20m deal to take Olivier Giroud from Arsenal to Chelsea, is expected to go through later on Wednesday, with the Frenchman making his final Gunners’ appearance from the bench in Tuesday night’s 3-1 defeat at Swansea City.
