EPL: Guardiola targets 10 more wins

By Daily Sports on January 21, 2018

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes his side need 10 more wins in the English Premier League to become champions after their 3-1 win over Newcastle United on Saturday.

Sergio Aguero scored a hat trick for Manchester City to extend the Citizens’ unbeaten run at home to 23 league games and Guardiola was delighted with the reaction following his side’s 4-3 loss to Liverpool last weekend.

City are now on 65 points from 24 games with 14 games left to play.

“We need 10 more wins to be champions, and we’ll try for more points. We face these kind of teams – Southampton, West Ham, Bournemouth, who play with the 5-4-1, that’s why it’s so important to attack this kind of team,” Guardiola told BBC Sport.

“We avoided two bad results in a row. We dropped two points against Palace and got it back against Watford.

“When you lose against Liverpool, you can shake hands with Jurgen Klopp and move on. The way we fought and the way we tried to play when they defended with many players in the box, that’s why it is so good.

“We were able to make a good combination in attack. I’m so satisfied. You always have doubts after the Liverpool loss as to how we react.

“It’s not how many goals you score, it’s how many chances you create, it’s how many chances your keeper has to save. It was important how we reacted at 2-1, we didn’t panic.”

City travel to Bristol City for the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Tuesday night looking to protect a 2-1 lead, before a trip to Cardiff City in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday, January 28.
