Iwobi in trouble for late night partying involving Indian hemp

By Daily Sports on January 9, 2018

Arsenal’s Nigerian International Alex Iwobi is currently being investigated by his club after reports emerged that he was partying early in the morning on the day Arsenal were bundled out of the FA Cup by lower League side Nottingham Forest.

The footie ace was reportedly up until 3:30 a.m.

The next day Iwobi played in Arsenal’s dismal 4-2 third round defeat at Championship side Nottingham Forest.

A source said: “Maybe his partying had something to do with it. He shouldn’t be up that late.”

The star was filmed dancing at the wild bash where partygoers smoked cannabis (Indian hemp) and inhaled laughing gas.

Now Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that striker will face a fine if video footage of him partying 36 hours ahead of the match is proven to be true.

Speaking to the BBC Wenger said it was “impossible” and “unacceptable” within 48 hours of a game, and although he was quick to point out that no drugs or drink were involved, the issue for him was simply being out.

“First of all we have to be cautious with everything that is coming out. When you read what is reported it is like he has taken drugs. He was not involved in that at all. He has been out at a birthday party and how long he has stayed? That is important. After, I will decide what happens,” Wenger said.

“You know that sometimes you want to prepare 100% but it is not always a guarantee you will be at your best. But that is what is requested from a top-level professional,” he added.

Supporters of Arsenal blasted the midfielder’s performance in Arsenal’s 4-2 third-round defeat on Sunday.

One called it a “disasterclass” while another wrote online: “Get him away from the team. So slow. There is no urgency.”

A source said: “Maybe Iwobi’s partying had something to do with it. He shouldn’t have been up that late before a big game.”

Neighbours complained about the noise from the rented Airbnb flat in Soho, central London, where the party continued until 3.30am.

One said: “They were keeping everyone in the building awake. I was woken at 1am by chanting and singing and went to complain. There were laughing gas canisters all over the place and a strong smell of weed.

“They claimed they hadn’t been allowed into a club and that’s why they rented the flat.”

There is no suggestion Iwobi was taking drugs.

Iwobi will do well to remember his professional commitments to his club and conduct himself in ways that would positively reflect on the team.

With the World Cup coming up in a few months, the worst thing for the player is to allow himself to be distracted by too much fun and face the kind of distracting scrutiny that may imperil his chances of being in the world cup party for Nigeria.
