The Lagos State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has congratulated one of its members, Mitchell Obi, who was re-elected unopposed as the AIPS Africa President for another four years.

The Lagos SWAN executive said the return of Mitchell at the Africa Congress in Nairobi, Kenya on Monday, December 18, 2018 was a testimony to his achievements and status as a global icon in the industry.

In a statement signed by the Lagos SWAN Chairman, Debo Oshundun on Thursday, he praised the CEO of Mastersports International for his contribution to the development of sports as critical stakeholder.

“We are so elated about this latest development.

“Here in Lagos, he is one of our revered leaders who have continued to provide the needed direction for us as individuals and association.

“Even as a cub reporter, he distinguished himself as one destined for bigger things.

“Presently, when it comes to global reckoning, he is the number 1 sports journalist in Africa by virtue of his position,” Oshundun said.

The Lagos SWAN chairman is upbeat that his continued leadership of AIPS Africa will continue to uplift the standard of sports reporting on the continent and at the global stage where he doubles as one of the Vice-Presidents at the global level.

“As a chapter of SWAN with the largest number of members, we hope to work closely with AIPS to provide a platform for our members to explore opportunities that will improve their professional standing.

“The strength of present day Lagos SWAN members lies with our young and vibrant members.

“We will work closely with AIPS Africa so that these vibrant members can tap into such opportunities and realize their potentials,” the SWAN President added.

“We thank the leadership of NFF under Amaju Melvin Pinnick for this deserved recognition of our members and by extension our association.

“These people have paid their dues and I am confident in their ability to deliver.

“I am so happy with the appointment of a young Tobi Adepoju. His appointment will inspire others to strive for greatness,” he said.
