The President/Sole Sponsor of Go-Round Football Club of Omoku, Bro. Felix Obuah, over the weekend bagged the ‘Sports Promoter of the Year 2017’ award.
The award, which was bestowed on the Go-Round FC owner on Saturday, December 2, 2017, in Lagos, by the Board of the Nigerian Awards for Sporting Excellence, followed the impressive performance and promotion of the Club into the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).
The organisers of the award, which is the brainchild of Nigeria’s leading sports newspaper, Daily Sports, said Bro. Obuah soared above other nominees because of his dogged devotion to philanthropy, sports and youths development.
Speaking at the award ceremony which held inside the exquisite Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, Bro. Obuah, who was represented by his Personal Assistant, Prince Ike Anselm Chukwu, said the award was significant in that it was coming less than two weeks to his birthday and less than two weeks after he emerged the Patron of the Nigerian Football Supporters Club in Rivers State.
Bro. Obuah said he regarded his choice for the award as a privilege and an act of grace as, according to him, there were tens of thousands of others eminently qualified for the award.
He expressed gratitude to God and to the cross section of Nigerians, who deemed him fit for the award, and pledged his devotion to the development of football, not only in Rivers State but in Nigeria as a whole.
“I draw my inspiration from the exemplary style of Rivers State Governor, His Excellency, Chief (Barr) Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON, who is leaving no stone unturned to make Rivers State, the sporting hub of the nation.
“I dedicate this award and many more to come, first to God Almighty whose abundant grace on me made this possible; to Governor Wike , ‘Mr. Projects’ and the Governor of our time, and to the good people of Rivers State for their continued support to what we are doing in the State,” said Obuah, who is also the Rivers State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He said he would continue to support the development of football and give his best to Go-Round FC who is playing in the elite football league, to the best of his ability, until the club reaches the peak of its achievements.
Others who also bagged the Nigerian Awards for Sporting Excellence, alongside the Go-Round FC owner, include Super Eagles and Chelsea of England star, Victor Moses; Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State; Senator Godswill Akpabio; tennis sensation Aruna Quadri; veteran striker Obafemi Martins; charismatic goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa; and celebrated female footballer Asisat Oshoala.
