A total of N1.36m will be up for grabs at the 3rd edition of Lagos Cycling contest holding on Sunday, November 26, 2017.
Initiator of the tournament tagged “Lagos Saddle Challenge”, Femi Thomas stated that the race which will be in 80 and 120 km will attract professionals, junior category, veterans amateur and vocational riders will feature 280 cyclists from various states of the federation and some international cyclists from Ghana and Benin republic respectively.
“We’re organising this event to encourage professional cycling in Nigeria. As well as revive the sport which has been dormant for some time.
“Winners in various categories will share a total of N1.36m at the end of the championship.
“It’s also a way of taking young ones of the street and make Lagos the cycling hub of Nigeria,” noted Thomas.
He explained that the race will kick off from the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, to Ikorodu Road, Maryland, Victoria Island turning at the Eko Hotel roundabout and terminating at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
Former national cycling coach, Joseph Izibili, while commending the organisers for the initiative, noted that he is happy that Nigerian are now taking cycling serious and appealed for more corporate support for the sport.
