Odion Ighalo has revealed he had to quit Watford and move to China to save his career even though he would have loved to remain in the Premier League.
He also revealed Premier League side West Bromwich Albion were keen to sign him before he moved to China in January, but they failed to meet the valuation of Watford.
Ighalo made the revelation in a studio interview at Skysports Thursday.
“I moved (to China) because that was what was best for me,” he opened up.
“My second season in the Premier League was not that great, we had a new manager and new system, which meant I played on the left and sometimes on the right. It was difficult, everything was not going right and I did not find it easy,” he said.
“I did not have much playing time and so I had to leave, and it didn’t matter where I went to.
“I didn’t want problem with my manager. It was difficult for me as I wanted to stay in the Premier League.
“But when the Chinese offered 20 million pounds, it was not bad cash for Watford.”
