Zambia coach Wedson Nyirenda has said Nigeria used their experience to convert a half chance and beat them to the ticket to the World Cup next year.
Substitute Alex Iwobi was the match winner for Nigeria in the 73rd minute, when he blasted home from a superb pullback by Shehu Abdullahi from the right as Nigeria again poured forward in search of a goal.
Nyirenda said Nigeria’s experience was the difference in a game his team dominated for long periods.
“They got a half chance and they used their experience to punish us,” he said.
“But we acquitted ourselves very well.
“This was the best game of this group.”
He added: “It was not an easy feat by Nigeria but they fought for it from the very first match.
“Today’s game was a game of wits.
“The best team got the day because of a goal.
“We had many clear chances, but they used their experience well.
“I am still proud of my players,” he noted.
