Napoli place €180m price tag on Osimhen

By Daily Sports Nigeria on June 23, 2023

Serie A champions Napoli have set the starting price for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen at €180m for the summer transfer window, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

This will be the third time that club president, Aurelio de Laurentiis, will increase the asking price for his star forward.

During the 2022 summer window, the Naples-based club set Osimhen’s fee at €120m, then during the winter transfer window in January, the president set the fee at €150m, although he insisted that Osimhen would not be leaving the club during the middle of the season.

As the transfer continues to rise, Osimhen’s suitors continue to increase, with PSG, Manchester United, Chelsea and Bayern Munich all reportedly interested in the Nigeria international.

According to French publication, Le Parisien, the transfer fee has now been set at €180m for the 2023/24 summer window.

Osimhen has emerged as a prime target for United this summer with club legends like Rio Ferdinand urging the 20-time EPL champions to sign him following his impressive display for the Serie A champions last season, helping the Parthenopeans to their first league title in 33 years.

The 24-year-old prolific striker had an outstanding campaign with Napoli, scoring 31 goals and providing five assists from just 39 appearances across all competitions.

Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag is in desperate need of a new striker for next season given Anthony Martial’s fitness struggles and the return of Wout Weghorst to Burnley.

De Laurentiis revealed that Osimhen has already agreed to a contract extension at Naples saying, “We already talked to Osimhen before the Scudetto celebration, so we already have a basic agreement on a two-year extension of his contract.

“I have said for a while that Osimhen has to stay. Then, if an offer came in that I could not refuse for the good of Napoli, then we would consider it, as is only natural.”

Osimhen, who has spent three years at Napoli, recently admitted that his ‘dream’ was to play in the Premier League.
