By Daily Sports on September 25, 2017

Premier League winner, Plateau United has been ousted from the Aiteo Cup championship by Niger Tornadoes. And, Tornadoes winger, Wilfred Angels Ammeh who is quite excited at the win could not hide his joy.

The Ikon Allah Boys were forced to 2-2 draw by the Tin City side in Sunday’s Aiteo Cup quarterfinals reverse clash at the Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos.

The match could not hold on Saturday as early scheduled due to heavy downpour that made the turf unplayable.

The Minna landlords scored first off the foot of Ibrahim Babawo in the 25th minute while Isah Hussaini doubled the side lead from the penalty spot in the 40th minute to end the half as leaders.

Bature Yaro scored a brace from the penalty spot in the 52nd and 90th minute to even scores at 2-2 for the Jos side.

However, it was the Minna outfit that progressed to the Aiteo Cup semifinals on 4-2 aggregate after two unreplied goals win in the first fixture clash on Wednesday in Lokoja.

Ammeh said his side are well-poised and strengthened to go ahead to challenge for the Aiteo Cup podium dance.

“We are excited with the outcome of the Aiteo Cup quarterfinals clash against the league champions, Plateau United.

“The match ended 2-2 in Jos on Sunday after we have taken a two-goal lead in the first half of the encounter.

“Plateau United came back strongly in the second half to score two goals from the penalty spot to tie the match at 2-2.

“However, do not forget that we had earlier beaten the side 2-0 in Lokoja on Wednesday to progress on 4-2 aggregate.

“Right now we have secured our berth into the semifinals of the Aiteo Cup and closer to the top prize.

“The fall of the league champions has somehow given us a new boost to push further for the top prize.

“We will not over celebrate our ticket to the semifinals but go back to the trenches to prepare for the tough semifinals clash.

“Something tells me that this will be our year to lift the coveted Aiteo Cup trophy,” said Ammeh to supersport.com.
