Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has revealed they hope they could still get FIFA to clear Ola Aina in time for Friday’s World Cup qualifier against Cameroon.
He told reporters Aina’s clearance has been stalled because FIFA are now demanding a letter from the Nigerian government that the defender, who is on loan to Hull City, is a citizen of the country.
“We are waiting for FIFA approval, he already has a Nigerian passport and what is now left is a letter from the Nigerian government that he is a citizen of the country,” Rohr explained.
“I hope today or tomorrow we will have him cleared.”
The coach also noted that Uche Agbo was handed a late call-up in case Aina, who can play at right and left fullback positions, is not cleared in time for the World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon on Friday and next week Monday.
