For the average fan of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), the title race is basically between the top two teams - Plateau United and MFM FC - while some might have just handed it to the Jos-based side.
One person, who does not belong to any of the school of thought is Olorunleke Ojo, first-choice goalkeeper for Akwa United who are in third place on the NPFL log.
Despite being eight points behind from the summit and five behind MFM FC (who are in second place) Ojo believes that it is not over yet.
One will wonder where he gets such confidence from considering with three games to go and nine points to earn, it looks almost impossible for Akwa United to usurp the top-two teams and claim a first ever league title.
Plateau United need only seven points from a possible nine to nick the title, a feat, which is highly possible considering their away form but Ojo is not perturbed as he believes anything is possible.
“I’m not really bothered at all, we (Akwa United) are just concentrating on our last three games. We want to win all our games and then hope things work in our favour,” he told npfl.ng.
“Yes we are in third position for now but we are working very hard towards our target of being in the first position when the league ends.
“We still have hope. In fact, our conviction is still very strong. We keep fighting till the last day of the season."
I’m confident because all of us here at Akwa Utd carry the same mentality and mindset that we must meet our target. We are all hungry for success, determined and working very hard to achieve those goals."
