If ever some players have a good luck charm, then Ine Stars goalkeeper Wilson Agho certainly possesses it. The grassroots club emerged as winners of the Edo state league this year, beating Royal Force FC 1-0 in a pulsating final match at the Sam Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City. The game was watched by the executive governor of the state Godwin Obaseki.
There was a subplot playing out as the two teams filed out from the dressing rooms for kickoff. 17-year-old Wilson Agho, the Ine Stars reserve goalkeeper emerged from the dressing room with other substitutes with a smile. The shot stopper knew his team were the favorites for the title and that he was on the verge of making history.

Agho became the first player and goaltender that has won the Edo state league with two different clubs.
In 2015 Agho won the league with Ine Stars before moving to Benin Warriors a team who are from his Upper Sakpoba neighborhood and who shocked the state last year by winning the league in its debut season of participation.
And now this year, Agho has won the league yet again with Ine having moved back to the club last year.
“I’ve got the lucky charm. I make teams win the league with my presence. When I play for a team, they are guaranteed winners,” Agho joked as he spoke at the Ogbemudia Stadium days before the final game.
Agho made appearances in the early rounds of the league this year, posting impressive performances for his side.
In the final rounds, first choice ’keeper Baduro was selected. But Agho showed full professionalism by accepting the decision of Osaro Egharevba, Coach of Ine Stars.
“I try to help the club any time I’m called upon. I’m happy I managed to do just that. It is important to help the club keep a happy dressing room and I'm happy I played my part in that regard,” Agho says.
The goalkeeper has very sharp reflexes and his defense organisation is well above average.
Though he didn’t feature in any of Benin Warriors games in the state league last year, due to the presence of another good goalkeeper Happy, he impressed me so much in the build-up games to the league for the Warriors where his strong performances anytime he was called upon helped the Warriors to enter the league with confidence.
As a young ’keeper Agho certainly has a bright future.
