CHAN: Salisu call on Nigerians in Cotonou for support

By Daily Sports on August 13, 2017

Head coach of the home-based Super Eagles Salisu Yusuf has called on Nigerians residing in Cotonou to come out and support his team against Benin Republic in Sunday's 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier.

Cotonou, which is the economic capital of Benin Republic, is home to a good number of Nigerians who have been residing there for years.

Yusuf, who along with his assistants put the home-based players through their paces during their first training on the Stade De Lamite pitch on Saturday, stated that the support of Nigerians based in Cotonou could play a part in his team's success.

"We know we have so many Nigerians in Cotonou. So if they can come to the stadium to support us, I think it will be great for us," Yusuf told Completesportsnigeria.com in Cotonou after the training session.

The former Enyimba coach stated that the bond in his team is their motivation as they strive to secure an away win."Anytime a team plays, they hope to win anywhere. So we will work very hard to win the game," he said.

"The strength of my team lies in their unity, we don't rely solely on individuals and hopefully that will count for us."

On what he and his team expect against Benin Republic, Salisu said:"I think Benin Republic have done very well by defeating Togo, it shows they have a good team."

For them to get to the next round and meet us, they had to beat who was in front of them and that was what they did. So we expect Sunday’s game to be tough." (Completesportsnigeria)
