‘Abia Angels won’t be relegated’

By Daily Sports on July 26, 2017

Abia Angels captain and striker, Ojiugo Blessing Godson is emphatic that her side will avoid the drop in the on-going Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL).

The Umuahia side are hosts of Ibom Angels in Wednesday’s NWPL matchday 13 clash at the Umuahia Township Stadium.

The Umuahia landladies were benched 1-2 by the Uyo outfit in the first fixture clash in Uyo.

Godson said her side’s programme to avoid the drop in their second stint in the top-flight is to win their remaining two matches on the calendar against Ibom Angels and Sunshine Queens.

“Of course, we will avoid relegation in the on-going top-flight, it looks tough but we will pull through.“

Initially, our focus was to clinch the first ever Super Four ticket but the outcomes of the last few matches have rubbished the dream.

“However, we have two home matches on the calendar against Ibom Angels and Sunshine Queens, I think six points in the matches will be more than enough to cement our status quo in the premier league.“

The acid test of our resolve to stay alive will be the clash against Ibom Angels which we considered a payback of a sort to the Uyo side for the loss in the first fixture clash. “We are 100% ready to confront Ibom Angels for the three points at stake,” he said.

The Umuahia outfit are sixth on the Group A log on nine points 13 behind group’s leaders, Rivers Angels.
