Sunshine Stars head coach, Duke Udi is thrilled his side defeated hard fighting top-flights, El Kanemi Warriors.
The Owena Waves piped the Maiduguri Warriors 1-0 in Sunday’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matchday 31 clash at the Otunba Dipo Dina International Stadium in Ijebu Ode.
Striker, Sikiru Alimi‘s goal in the 34th minute proved adequate to hand the Akure landlords the whole three points at stake.
Udi said both sides were even and balanced in their respective challenge as the outcome could have gone either way.
“It was a fantastic display of football by both sides, a 50/50 contest that could have gone either way.“
Predictably, El Kanemi Warriors gave us a huge run for our money I give kudos to my players for holding their ground till the end of the clash.
“Of course, I’m excited we pocketed the whole three points at stake, we won the contest and outright the better side on matchday.“
Right now the guys can relax a bit to fight for the remaining points, at least, the victory on Sunday is a great cushioning on our placement on the league log.
