Shawn Porter calls out Danny Garcia

By Daily Sports on July 19, 2017

Fresh off his knockout victory over Andre Berto, WBC mandatory challenger Shawn Porter has called out #2 WBC Danny Garcia for a fight between them.

Porter, 29, would prefer to face WBA/WBC welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman in a rematch, but he’s on the shelf in recovering from elbow surgery.

Thurman won’t be available for a fight until later this year, and it’s extremely doubtful that he’ll choose Porter (27-2-1, 17 KOs) as his next opponent when he does return to the ring.

In the meantime, Garcia (33-1, 19 KOs) has already been given an offer to fight for a world title against IBF 147 lb. champion Errol Spence Jr., an offer that the 29-year-old Garcia has ignored.

If Garcia were to beat Spence to pick up the IBF title, it would make a rematch between him and Thurman a much bigger fight. Apparently, Garcia doesn’t seem to like the idea of facing Spence for his IBF title despite the big payday he would get if he won the IBF belt.

Porter said on his Instagram in calling out Danny Garcia:“Plain and simple Danny Swift Garcia; anytime, anyplace. Whatever I gotta do to get that green belt around my waist. #ThePorterWay #WBC #PorterGarcia #AlwaysReady #Greatness #TooMuchFunForFree. I just heard that the WBC would like ‘Showtime’ Shawn Porter to fight another title eliminator. And they want me to fight none other than the cherry picker himself – Danny Garcia. Well I say to you, Danny Garcia, let’s get it on! Ooohhh Yeahhh!”

Garcia responded to the post by sending “[laughing emojis] I’m laughing at you, not with you. Send the contract Bozo [clown emoji].”
