Okagbare, Amusan, triumph in Warri meet

Nigeria’s athletes recorded victories at the 2017 Warri Relays & Conferderation of Africa Athletics Grand Prix held on Tuesday at the main bowl of the Delta State Polytechnic Ozoro.

Blessing Okagbare and Ogho-Oghene Egwero led Team Nigeria to victories in the 4X100m relays events.

Egwero came first as he clocked 10.33 seconds in the men’s 100m event, while Okagbare led the Nigeria women’s 4x100m team to win in a time of 43.92 seconds.

Tobiloba Amusan won the women’s hurdles event in a time of 12.97 seconds while Grace Ayemoba finished a distant second in a time of 13.53 seconds. Efe Favour came third in 13.63 seconds.

Isoken Igbinosun clocked a time of 11.49 seconds to win the women’s 100m, while Alphonsus crossed the line in 11.51 secs and Ntia Obong Mercy ran 11.66 secs.

Agber Shimenge was the winner in the women’s 800m claiming top position in 2 minutes 11.29 seconds while Ihekandu Philomena and Oluchi Offoma settled for second and third places.

In the 110m hurdles for men, Martins Ogieriakhi won in a time of 13.82 seconds beating Abejoye Oyeniyi and Bashiru Abuduliahi to second and third positions.

Yinka Ajayi won the women’s 400m race and recorded a new personal best time of 51.30 secs. Abike Ebegniyi and Folashade Olotu were second and third.

Kelechi Nwanaga broke a 15-year national record in women’s javelin, with a 58.15m throw. The previous record of 55.30m was set by Sorochukwu Ihuefo in 2002. (Completesportsnigeria.com)
