The Pillar of Sports in Nigeria, Chief Donatus Agu Ejidike, JP, has joined other well-meaning Nigerians to send solidarity message to Super Eagles goalkeeper Carl Ikeme, who was recently diagnosed with acute leukaemia.
The Pillar of Sports, in a statement, prayed for Ikeme’s quick recovery as he begins chemotherapy treatment. Ejidike urged all sports loving Nigerians to pray for him knowing fully well that the 31-year-old goalie is at the crucial period of his playing career and needs to be in high spirit at this time of trial.
The sports philanthropist praised the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for playing a very significant role by sending words of hope and love to the sick goalie.
Ejidike urged the football ruling authority to beam a searchlight on reliable substitutes ahead of the crucial World Cup qualifier against the dreaded indomitable Lions of Cameroon and other games in the World Cup and AFCON qualifiers. Ejidike strongly believes that the Wolverhampton and Super Eagles goalkeeper will recuperate and bounce back but may not be available for this year’s World Cup qualifiers.
It would be recalled that Carl Ikeme has made no appearance in recent times for Nigeria as a result of injury. “It is sad and unfortunate that as the injury nightmares seems to be over, Carl Onome Ikeme is diagnosed to have cancer in his bone marrow after a pre-season test,” Ejidike lamented.
The Pillar of Sports believes vehemently that with faith in God and fervent prayers, Ikeme will be in goal again for Nigeria.
