William Troost-Ekong has joined Turkish Super Lig club Bursaspor so as to enhance his chances of playing at next year’s World Cup by playing more regular first-team football.
The Turkish club confirmed Friday the international defender has signed a three-year contract with them following his departure from Belgian club KAA Gent, where he has failed to establish himself.
The 23-year-old Troost-Ekong, who also has Dutch nationality, made a mere eight appearances for Gent last season after he returned for a two-season-long loan at Norwegian club Haugesund.
Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has insisted that Ekong needs to be playing at a higher level and regularly to keep his place in the national team.
It is believed the club now headed by former Cameroon coach Paul Le Guen, who came close to handling the Super Eagles last year, splashed out a million Euros for the hard-tackling central defender.
