Portuguese Primeira Liga outfit Rio Ave have announced the signing of Junior Elkanemi Academy defender Kelechi John Christian following a successful trial.

Kelechi, who celebrates his nineteenth birthday in September 2017, has penned a contract which will keep him in Vila do Conde until the end of the 2021-2022 season.

Speaking to the official website of Rio Ave, the young Nigerian expressed delight at signing for Rio Ave, and added that football is his life, the air he breathes, that he does not know how to live without football.

Blessed with a tall physique, Kelechi played in three positions center back, left fullback and right fullback during his trials before the coaches decided to use him in a central defense role.

The transfer fee has not been disclosed by Rio Ave, however, allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Junior Elkanemi Academy will pocket 100,000 euros for agreeing to do business with the Portuguese club.
