Abia Angels head coach, Ann Agumanu-Chiejine has admitted aptly that her side are outsiders as far as the on-going Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) Super Four is concerned.
The Umuahia landladies sweated to their panties to hold FC Robo Queens to a barren draw in NWPL matchday 9 clash in Lagos on Wednesday.
The NWPL Super Four contest comprises two top teams in each group decides who becomes the champions of the on-going league season.
Agumanu-Chiejine said the realistic target open to her side at the moment is to fight hard to keep their premiership status quo in the on-going top-flight.
“No, we are no longer candidate for the Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) Super Four at least for the on-going season.
“That’s the reality right now and we just have to accept and acknowledge the fact that we have lost the chance to make it to the Super Four.
“Although just like any other team in the premiership that’s the whole dream to earn a spot in the Super Four and chance being champions for the season.
“We worked very hard towards it but we know, too that it will take more than mere effort and wish being a newcomer to the top-flight.
“Next season we will now do the utmost to ensure we clinch one of the spots for the NWPL Super Four.
“Though our position on the league log is not impressive the task to keep us in the premier league is still achievable and we will give it our very best to make it a reality,” said the former Nigerian goalkeeper and Super Falcons coach to supersport.com.
Abia Angels are at the bottom of the seven-team NWPL Group A log on six points nine behind leaders and title holders, Rivers Angels.
