Festus Austine major doubt for must-win Confederation Cup tie

By Daily Sports on June 18, 2017

Rivers United skipper Festus Austine is a doubt for Tuesday’s must-win CAF Confederation Cup Group A tie against KCCA of Uganda in Port Harcourt after he was injured in a 1-0 loss at Lobi Stars.

The inspirational central defender was forced out of the Lobi Stars game on Friday after only 23 minutes of action.

A Rivers United official disclosed: “He is now a doubt for the Confederation Cup game against Ugandan club KCCA.”

They are bottom of the standings in Group A with three points from as many matches and need to win in front of their fans on Tuesday to revive their flagging hopes to reach the knockout rounds of the competition.

They lost 2-1 to the Ugandan champions in the reverse clash.

Rivers United poor away record continued at Lobi Stars in a rearranged NPFL fixture as they fell to a late Nanen Imenger superb header after goalkeeper Femi Thomas saved a penalty by Anthony Okpotu in the 64th minute.

The Port Harcourt outfit remain in 15th place with 30 points from 24 matches.
