FA boss wants CAF to rescind AFCON hosting rights

By Daily Sports on June 16, 2017

Zimbabwean Football Association boss Philip Chiyangwa says he wants CAF to rescind their decision in regards to the Africa Cup of Nation hosts for 2019, 2021 and 2023 AFCON tournaments.

Chiyangwa has reportedly written to CAF asking the federation to rescind their decision on who hosts the three upcoming continental tournaments because they were 'politically and aggressively' awarded.

Cameroon are set to stage the 2019 event with Ivory Coast to organise the 2021 and Guinea was given the 2023 showpiece.

However, Chiyangwa, who also leads the Council of Southern Africa Football Association (COSAFA) as president, has been vocal about football governance matters on the continent and the hosting of the Afcon tournaments.

“They were politically and aggressively awarded to those countries. Only one region is benefiting,” Chiyangwa said.

“There must be an inquiry and we are going to protest.”

With Issa Hayatou gone, Chiyangwa has set his eyes on dismantling the programmes that were set out under Hayatou's tenure.

He has accused the West African region on the continent of overly benefiting from the Presidency of Hayatou at the continental football governing body.
