The second edition of the Ladies in Sports conference (LIS 2017) has been successfully held in Lagos.

In her opening remarks, the Independent Chairperson of the Nigeria Women League Board Aisha Falode, echoed the importance of its theme, “Developing the Women’s Game”.

“There could not have been more apt and auspicious time to take a pensive look at the state of affairs of the women’s league than the platform provided by the enigmatic Ladies in Sports Conference as well as its captivating and challenging theme,” she said.

The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Paul Akwright, was in attendance and presented grants on behalf of the Ladies in Sports team to last season’s three most valuable players of the Nigeria Women Premier League (Rofiat Sule and Alice Ogebe of Rivers Angels as well as Rita Akarekor of Delta Queens). Also in attendance was his Deputy, Laura Beaufils, and the former Head of Politics, Andrew Fleming.

Also featured were the highly anticipated lecture sessions led by award-winning UK Producer Benny Bonsu, delivering the first presentation on “Globalisation of Women in Sports”.

In addition, Super Falcons defender Onome Ebi briefly touched on her experiences and struggles as a female footballer before Ita Bassey, Head of Innovation at Nigerian Breweries Plc., addressed “Brand Management and Marketing”.

Supersport Presenter Mozez Praiz, standing in for Felix Awogu, closed the six-hour programme with his take on “Matchday TV Production and Broadcast Rights”.

Founder of the Ladies in Sports Conference, Tega Onojaife, assured that more efforts will be put into making this annual event to impact more athletes and women in sports as a whole.

LIS 2017, organised by Lavie Associates and held on Friday, June 9, 2017 held at Sheraton Hotel in Ikeja, was proudly supported by the UK High Commission in Nigeria, Promasidor Nigeria, Smooth 98.1 FM Lagos and LadiesMarch Africa.
