Echiejile focuses on victory over SA

Elderson Echiejile has said that he is completely focused on helping Nigeria in their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualification which starts with a home game against South Africa today.

The 29-year-old, who is only one of four players who have played at the Afcon proper, Ogenyi Onazi, Ahmed Musa and Kenneth Omeruo, being the others, explained that his presence is to ensure that Nigeria's Super Eagles "have a good start" to the qualification for the African tournament.

The AS Monaco man, who has been on loan spells to Standard Liege and Sporting Gijon in recent months, explained, has also opted to put forward his honeymoon to turn out for Nigeria after his white wedding to his heartthrob Vwemo in France last weekend.

Echiejile told supersport.com: "It is very important to start our (Afcon) qualification games very well. I think if we have a good start we will definitely achieve our goal of being at the next Nations Cup. So that is why I wanted to be with the team, and make sure we start very well, and by God's grace qualify for the Nations Cup because we have missed the last two editions. "So everyone (invited by the coach, myself inclusive) have to be present to make sure that we qualify for the Nations Cup."
