Warriors shocked over NPFL draw

By Daily Sports on June 8, 2017

El Kanemi Warriors attacking midfielder Samuel Mathias has said his side are shell-shocked over the score draw against reigning Nigerian champions Enugu Rangers.

The Maiduguri Warriors forced the Flying Antelopes to a 1-1 draw in Wednesday’s top-flight matchday 23 clash at the Maiduguri Township Stadium.

Former Enyimba forward Daniel Etor put the Coal City side in front while a last-minute effort by defender Alex Aghaho Otakho salvaged a point for the hosts, El Kanemi Warriors.

Mathias said Enugu Rangers have achieved a feat no other team has been able to uphold in their last 41 matches on Maiduguri soil.

“There is no joy in the camp as we speak, everybody is still moody and ruing the draw against Enugu Rangers.

“This is the first time a team will come to Maiduguri to pick a point against us since last league season.

“Rangers even scored first through Daniel Etor as we were almost losing the whole three points before Alex Otakho saved the bad day for us.

“Nobody saw it coming but we have taken it in good faith as a challenge and wake-up call for us in the remainder of the league.

“We will not take the challenge lying low, we will fight with our whole strength to reclaim the points in our subsequent matches.

“We thank God that our unbeaten record is still intact but it has been shaken and we must take it seriously before
someone else comes here to snatch the whole points,” said the former Kano Pillars marksman to supersport.com.

The Maiduguri Warriors are third on the 20-team top-flight on 37 points, five behind league leaders Plateau United.
