Nigeria international Kelechi Iheanacho has been lauded as an ‘outstanding’ player by Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers.
The 24-year-old marksman netted his first-ever hat-trick in the English Premier League as Leicester hammered Sheffield United 5-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Rodgers was keen to address Iheanacho’s individual performance for the Foxes after the left-footed hitman took his 2020/21 goals figure into double digits.
“He was outstanding, not just in his goals, but his overall work-rate,” Rodgers told the club’s official website.
“He had a big responsibility today, in terms of dropping into the space, finding that pocket that was just on the back of the midfield.
“And I thought he did that very, very well. “He’s a great guy. He deserved the three goals. He had one or two other opportunities, but we’re all delighted for him.”
Iheanacho has now scored 12 goals across all competitions for Leicester this season and he will be looking to add to his tally when the Foxes face Manchester United in the FA Cup match on March 21.
Each of the last three hat-tricks in the Premier League have been scored by African players.
