Enyimba fly over leaders Plateau United

Nigeria Professional Football League table toppers Plateau United suffered a momentary setback to their title ambitions following a 0-1 loss at Enyimba in Calabar on Sunday.

Adhoc full back Andrew Abalogu provided the game's decisive moment on 69 minutes when his 20-yard effort beat Plateau United goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye whose desperate attempt to keep it out ultimately failed.

Abalogu was later stretchered off late on following what looks like an ankle sprain but his contribution was enough to seal victory for the former Champions in an otherwise feisty contest decided at the U.J Esuene stadium.

Enyimba's profligacy in front of goal was once again on the front burner as the hosts wasted numerous gilt-edge chances that would have taken them out of sight even since the first half.

Coach Gbenga Ogunbote made just a solitary change to the side that lost at Sunshine Stars last Match Day in a game Enyimba were also left to rue their wastefulness. Striker Ibrahim Mustapha returned from injury and started at the expense of Stephen Chukwudi.

Ogunbote's opposite number, Kennedy Boboye was without the dimunitive Philip Azango but welcomed back Sunday Ingbede to the starting set-up.

It was Plateau United that laid down the marker for a pulsating contest when Hamzat Owolabi - match winner in United's last game against Remo Stars - took a deflected effort in the sixth minute but Enyimba's Ghanaian goalkeeper Fatau Dauda produced an excellent reflex save to turn it over the bar.
