Abia Warriors pummel Rangers in derby

By Daily Sports on May 29, 2017

Nigerian champions Enugu Rangers were thumped 4-0 by one of their southeast rivals in Sunday's NPFL clash at the Umuahia Stadium.

The win ensured that Abia Warriors completed a first-ever Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) double over Rangers.

Sunday Adetunji opened the scoring for Abia Warriors on six minutes from goalkeeper Agbor Ekoi's assist and nine minutes later Anthony Okemmiri finished off Uche Ihuarulam's pass to make it two-nil against the champions.

The Flying Antelopes were all over the place as Adetunji netted his second of the afternoon to extend Abia Warriors' lead further.

Substitute Obi Samson, who had assisted Adetunji for his second goal, added gloss to the scoreline when he turned in the ball past Rangers goalkeeper Seidu Mutawakilu.

The champions, with 26 points from 21 matches now, only have a superior goal difference to thank for their position above the drop zone.
